Answer engine optimization for mortgage sites: be the answer.
Answer engines lift short, direct answers from pages they trust. We write and structure every page so the answer to its question sits right under the heading — clean enough to be quoted, accurate enough to keep.

Debt-to-income
At our company we believe every borrower deserves a personal approach, and understanding your finances is an important first step on the journey to homeownership. One of the many factors lenders may look at is something called DTI, which compares…
Answer-first
What is a debt-to-income ratio?
Your debt-to-income ratio (DTI) is your total monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income. If you pay $2,100 a month in debts and earn $7,000 before tax, your DTI is 30%. Lenders use it to judge whether a new payment is manageable; limits vary by program.
Example figures are illustrative arithmetic, not lending guidance.
Patterns
Which content patterns do answer engines prefer?
Clear questions, immediate answers, short definitions, lists and tables, and visible sources. We use all six on every important page.
- 01
Question-shaped headings
"How much do I need for a down payment on an FHA loan?" instead of "Down payments".
- 02
Answer in the first two sentences
The heading's question is answered directly before any explanation.
- 03
Definition blocks
A 40–60 word definition of a term like "debt-to-income ratio" that can be quoted on its own.
- 04
Lists for steps, tables for comparisons
Numbered steps for "how to", a clean table for "FHA vs conventional".
- 05
Page-specific FAQs with schema
8–12 real questions per important page, marked up as FAQPage.
- 06
Sources and dates in the sentence
"…according to Freddie Mac's weekly survey published on [date]".
- Featured snippet
- A short answer Google sometimes shows above or within the results, quoted from one page. It's chosen automatically; you can't buy it, but clear, accurate, well-structured answers make your page a candidate.
FAQ
AEO questions
What is answer engine optimization (AEO)?
AEO is structuring content so search features and voice or AI assistants can lift a direct answer from it — featured snippets, "People also ask" answers, spoken answers. It's about being the answer, not just a link in the list.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO helps a page rank; AEO helps a specific passage get extracted and shown as the answer. They work together: a well-ranked page with answer-first structure is the one most likely to be quoted.
What makes content "answer-first"?
The direct answer comes immediately after the question, in one or two plain sentences, before any background. Then the detail, then sources.
Do FAQ blocks still help?
Yes for readers and for answer extraction. Google now shows FAQ rich results only for some sites, so we use FAQs because they answer real questions — the markup is a bonus, not the goal.
Which mortgage questions are good AEO targets?
Specific, factual questions: "What credit score do I need for an FHA loan?", "How is DTI calculated?", "What happens at a mortgage closing?" — answered accurately with a source.
Can answer-first content create compliance risk?
It can if an answer slips into rate or payment promises. We keep answers general, cite official sources and run the trigger-term check on every page.
Does this page practise what it preaches?
Yes — every heading here is a question or a claim, every section opens with its answer, and the FAQ below is marked up as FAQPage.
